This was a very windy day so we elected to stay in port and I worked half of the day sanding and varnishing the brightwork. It looks good where I did it.
During a lull in the winds mid afternoon I looked in the direction of where my hat had gone and thought I saw a white object about 100’ off the dock. The water was very clear so I decided to go diving. I pulled out the mask, snorkel and fins and jumped into the cold water.
After swimming to the spot I could look down to verify that, in fact, it was my hat. I estimate it was down about 15 feet so wondered if I could dive that deep anymore. A hundred years ago when we lived in Hawaii I could dive on the anchor at 25’ but I have taken on significant buoyancy since then and my density is not as great as it used to be. I made it but think that 15’ is probably near the edge of my current capabilities. I had my hat again!
We attempted to have docktails on the dock but it was too windy so we were invited aboard Knot Home’s sun deck. The other folks from last nights dock party had left but another couple on the dock were invited.
We all went to the Meldrum Inn for a very good dinner.
