It was around 34 degrees Fahrenheit last night. After a week of non-travel it was time to get going again. We made everything ready and were off the dock by 0845. The wind was up enough to create white caps on Wheeler Lake as we headed up river. We met one tow head on but with a wide channel we had all kinds of room. About two hours into the cruise Manãna and two other looper boats passed us headed for Ditto Landing Marina.
We had determined we would try to let most of the boats go ahead of us so the marinas would not be full when we arrived. We went to a very nice free dock at Ingall’s Harbor on the outskirts of Decatur, Alabama so traveled 26.4 statute miles and arrived by 1230 hrs.
The wind stayed up all afternoon and the temperature never got above the mid 60’s. The sun was shining so the cabin was warm but it was a bit cool sitting in the cockpit. Mid afternoon I took a long walk in the area but found no commercial area so enjoyed the local neighborhood. We were all alone most of the afternoon but another looper boat joined us just prior to sunset.
