Even though we were only going to travel 27 miles we had to go through three locks so we left at 0740. The first, Fulton Lock, at MM 391 had a drop of 25’, the second, Wilkins, at MM 376.3 had a drop of 25’ and the last, Amory Lock at MM 371 had a drop of 30’. This put our elevation at 190’ above sea level and we had dropped 224’ since leaving Pickwick Lake.
Lake Acker Cut-Off in an inlet that used to be part of the original Tombigbee River before the dams were built. The waterway cuts through a curve in the river making an Oxbow. Some water still moves through this oxbow but not much so the current is very low. The anchorage is well protected and it was glass calm while there. We anchored in about 8’ of water.
