December 1-4, 2015 – Tuesday – Friday – Tarpon Springs– No Travel

We got a great night of sleep Monday night and were back to normal. We had signed up for two nights at Turtle Cove Marina but extended it to a week.

Yup –  I (Ron) was there too!

After meeting with Liz and John we got recommendations from them about doctors to look at my potential ACL leg problem and to look at Vicki’s scoliosis back problem to see whether there were solutions to either. I got an appointment with an ACL specialist on Tuesday the 8th and Vicki got an appointment for Wednesday the 9th. If my leg problem is truly and ACL tear then we hope to stay and have it operated on the 17th so we will likely be in the area for the next month. We may move down to Clearwater next Monday but that is only about 20 miles down the GICW.

Tarpon Springs is known for its Greek community and sponge diving.

Turtle Cove has a pool, hot tub, and is within easy walking distance of the Greek business district and waterfront so it is a nice place to stay. There is a Tiki bar that is only open on the weekends so all of the looper boats have been using that each evening for docktails.

The Tiki Bar where evening looper gatherings take place.  There are probably about eight looper boats at Turtle Cove marina and then others at different marinas in Tarpon Springs.

This area is riddled with little channels, lakes and canals so it is a fun place to explore with the dinghy. All of the major national stores are a short distance away so we have already found a cushion for the YETI cooler at West Marine that will insulate it from the blazing sun and make another place to sit in the cockpit. Vicki enjoys the “shopping”.
