Ron and Vicki Montgomery make their home on beautiful Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. During their 52 years of marriage they have always planned to retire there. Travel and adventure have always been in their DNA.
While young there were two kinds of boats available to them. One was the boat they loved but could not afford and the other was the boat they could afford but didn’t want. This led to building a 36′ ketch in their back yard and sailing it from Puget Sound to Hawaii where they lived and worked for four years.
After raising two beautiful daughters back in the Puget Sound (now the Salish Sea) and seeing them married they headed to Shanghai, China for seven years and were involved in an incredible project of building all facets of two campuses for Shanghai American School. This provided the opportunity to travel extensively throughout east Asia. This also led to retirement and long term visits in Australia and the Philippines.
Next it was to Orcas and building a retirement home of their dreams. When this was nearly finished Ron came out of retirement to take on a three year project in Seoul/Incheon, South Korea designing and building another beautiful international school. Vicki remained on Orcas to engineer the final interior touches of the retirement home. In 2009 Ron retired again and then began more travel adventure with extended stays in New Zealand, southern Europe, the Bahamas as well as cruising aboard the MV/Mei Wenti in the Salish Sea, British Columbia and SE Alaska. Now for the “Great Loop” adventure!
